17 things on my ‘to do’ list in 2017

Well we are moving into 2017 and it will also be a big number birthday for me. If you read my blog last year, you would know that I’ve changed my mind about New Year Resolutions and I don’t make them anymore. If you want to know why I don’t think they are important just click here on the link. Why you should forget New Year Resolutions

So to 2017, can you believe it?

17-things on my to do list

This year I’ve decided to make a list of all the things I would like to do in 2017. Some are new things to try, others are things that I want to do more regularly and others are just because. I also decided to make a list because I’m a list girl and I love ticking off when I’ve completed something.

We get so caught up in day-to-day life, even when we are retired. I don’t know how many times I’ve thought – ‘how did I fit all this in and work full-time as well?’

Making a list of things that are not day-to-day but things I actually want to do will help me to make sure that my life has a lovely balance.

Balance was my word for 2016 but unfortunately, I struggled with trying to find it. So in 2017 I’ll be taking a different approach.

Here are my 17 things on my ‘to do’ list in 2017 – in no particular order by the way.

1. Gardening – I’ve always been a ‘brown thumb’ so I’d love to discover my ‘green thumb’ this year. Even if I can keep a potted plant alive I’ll be happy.

2. Photography – I’m usually the one that just points and clicks but I’m hoping to improve my photography skills and ‘styling’.

3. Regular Massages – I recently had a massage and it was heaven. With all the exercise I do my poor body takes a beating sometimes. So a regular massage will give my body some love.

4. Yoga Retreat – The Saturday Sisters and I are planning a day of Yoga and Meditation at a Yoga Retreat to revitalise ourselves.

5. Quality time with my darling – 2016 was a difficult year with the death of my father-in-law and caring for my 90 year old mother-in-law. There wasn’t much time to spend with my darling. In 2017 I’ll be working on spendng more quality time with him.

6. Fun Runs – Each year at our Christmas breakfast the Saturday Sisters plan our runs for the next year. This keeps us motivated to keep up our running and work towards some goals.

7. Travel – I love to travel and we have not been able to for a couple of years. 2017 will be a year to plan a holiday.

8. New Recipe each week – cooking can become tiresome and boring so I’m going to pep it up a little and try a new recipe each week.

9. Health & Lifestyle Plan – making a lifestyle plan to keep fit and healthy in mind, body and soul.

10. Time to Play – including some ‘playtime’ and having fun will be part of my 2017 to do list. Laughing more and bringing out my inner child.

11. Crochet a Rug – mainly because I want to finish one! I have started but never finished so this will be a project for the winter.

12. Weekly Home Facial – having facials are a lovely way to indulge but they can be expensive. I’m going to ensure I give myself a weekly facial at home and maybe splurge on a professional one each quarter.

13. Visit Family – I have family in another State who I haven’t seen for many years. 2017 I’m planning a trip to reconnect with them.

14. Keep Learning – like the crocheted rug I start learning Italian but don’t persist. 2017 will be the year I actually speak Italian when I visit the family in Italy.Ā  I will also be continuing with free short courses through Futurelearn.com – an active mind is a healthy mind.

15. Listen to music – I used to listen to music but it has been pushed to the background. 2017 will see me introduce more music into my life.

16. Volunteer – giving back to others is not only good for them but also is good for you. I would like to give my time in 2017 and do some volunteer work.

17. Be thankful – I know this gets written about so often but genuinely taking the time each day to give thanks for all that I have in my life.

Well I thought I’d be a little different with my numbers Carol šŸ™‚ I need some fun after a not so good 2016 so if I write it down it may just happen – you never know.

Great stuff, Sue – and am inspired to write my own list. I always do a home facial each week as well – though I’d say yours are a bit more successful than mine!

I like your list — can I steal it? šŸ˜‰ I’m still in denial that it’s the end of the year already. Where did the time go?

Of course you may ‘steal’ my list Helene! You can add some of your own as well. 2016 has been a blur I can’t believe we will be into a new year in a few weeks. Next year I will be in a new decade as I turn 60.

I’m with ya on every single one (well, except yoga… for no particular reason). I especially love Nos. 2, 14, 15-17. Thanks and gratitude top my list, even if 2017 turns out to be as crappy of a year for me as 2016. (Though I sure as heck hope not! It’s been one for the record books, for sure.)

An early CHEERS to the New Year and you!

And best wishes to you Lisa! There are a number of people, myself included who will be glad to see 2016 come to an end. I’m with you that Gratitude should still be #1 in our lives. If we are grateful for all that we have that brings contentment which in turn brings happiness. Wishing you a wonderful 2017. xx

I love that you’re forward planning – and that there’s lots of fun stuff and a bit of “me” stuff in there too. It’s so important to be proactive and have things to look forward to in the year ahead. I wish your friend lived in WA then we could have had a meet up!

Yes if I don’t plan Leanne nothing happens and after the year we have had I want to include some fun things that is for sure.

What a great list, I may be stealing it too! I gave up on resolutions years ago and now write goals. I am frantically trying to finish my last 2- 2016 goals. I seriously cannot believe how fast this year has gone by. I am looking forward to 2017.

You are most welcome to ‘steal’ it Doreen but I’m sure you will also have a few other ideas for fun things to do in 2017. 2016 has gone in a blur!

I love the concept of having this kind of upbeat to-do list (I’m most definitely a list gal). I get so caught up in work and other must-do stuff that when I have downtime, I often find myself at a loss for what to do. But if I had a list…

Love your list, Sue. I will add on my list for 2017: Time for my soul: Music, books, art and spiritual focus.

Since I have used so much time on my jewellery business in 2016 I need to change, to let go of the never ending struggle to be better and improve. I am a very Lucky person, since I have so many Things that fill me up: Painting, playning piano, reading, nature, spiritual Development – and a lot more.

THANKS – an excellent list – and SEE YOU IN ITALY NeXT year (ha ha) you remember I speak Italian and I lived in Florence when I was Young. LOVE and thoughts

Your list is fabulous šŸ™‚ I’d also like to steal it … and try to emulate it šŸ™‚ 2016 sounds like it was quite a ‘sandwich’ year for you, so I really hope 2017 is fabulous and fun.

Love these Sue! I’m putting together a ‘things to do before 50’ list and bought a gorgeous bucket list journal at a book thing last night. It has lots of space so I may need to continue rather than just stick to the few I had in mind!

Hi Deb, yes I’m also putting together a list of 60 things before I’m 60 in 2017 so I’d better get my thinking cap on. I love a journal book or any stationery really but then I just look at it for a while because I don’t want to spoil the pages with my writing LOL:)

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions either Sue as I tend to break them after a few weeks. I also love to write lists. Each week I write a list of my must dos for that week and also include some “me” time on that list like Pilates, Yoga, walking, a massage, catching a movie or having coffee with friends. It is a great way of finding balance and you have more chance of doing things if they are the list. I have similar goals to you for 2017: travel (of course), continuing my exercise program, cooking healthy food, cutting back on the wine and learn something new. I like the sound of a Yoga Retreat too! #TeamLovinLife

Sue, I have a big birthday coming up in 2017 too – the big “5-oh!” will be in January so only a few weeks away now. I’m thinking of turning the whole year in to a celebration and calling it the Festival of 50. And of course, I’ll blog about it!!!

What a great idea Janet! I may steal that idea although I haven’t even thought about how to celebrate yet. Mine isn’t until August – the big 60 – I can’t believe it actually I’m sure my birth certificate is incorrect. LOL:)

It’s a big tick to all 17 of these items for me too Sue! I usually make some NY resolutions and have a list – even if I only achieve half of it, I’m way ahead of where I was at the end of the previous year. Gotta love a plan! Best wishes for a happy, healthy and successful 2017 x šŸ™‚ #TeamLovinLife

This is a big list! Love it.
I agree with the keep learning. That should be on everyone’s lists. It helps us to age positively. Continued learning is essential to prevent the mid-life plateau. It’s important we always continue to grow!

I don’t do new years resolutions either but I think a to do list is a fantastic idea. Only problem is is have no idea what I want to do lol. I love the idea of putting something like this together for myself though so I’d best get thinking. Thanks for sharing this brilliant idea.
