My week has been pretty mixed in all areas, so not feeling on top of the world. I’m not going to beat myself up though. We all have our up and down days but the important thing is to ACCEPT these times and then GET BACK ON TRACK.
Part of a healthy lifestyle is accepting when things aren’t going well, getting through it the best way you can and then getting back to where you want to be. By being kind to yourself, you give yourself time to work through everything and you can come back stronger.
There is so much pressure to perform in all areas of our lives that sometimes life gets in the way and we feel overwhelmed. Of course, a lot of this pressure and stress is self-imposed. We feel responsible for our families and wanted to make sure they are all okay, we have work commitments and social commitments and as I’ve written before, it is difficult to say ‘NO’.
At some point, our bodies start to give us the message that we are overdoing it and it needs some nurturing. Our minds feel the same. We overload our minds with information and when you throw feelings into the mix we struggle to think clearly and stay focussed.
Of course there is the pressure of setting the standard bar too high for ourselves and then feeling guilty when some days we don’t reach the bar.IT IS TIME TO STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP AND BE KIND TO YOURSELF!Click To Tweet
So how do we get back on track when life gets in the way?
First we need to accept that we are feeling overwhelmed and that it is okay to take a day off! In my post Why We All Need A Mental Health Day I talk about making time to Rest, Recover and Refresh.
2, Take Time Out
Make some quiet time for you and be kind to yourself. It might be relaxing with a book, going for a walk, seeing a moving, having a relaxing bath or meditating. Time Out gives you time to nurture your mind and body and recharge yourself. I like to call it ‘Me Time’.
3. Set a Short Term Goal
If you have been working towards a goal and fallen off track, try setting shorter term goals that are very achievable. This will get you back on the track towards your long term goal and will also build your confidence as you achieve the smaller goals along the way.
4. Talk to Someone
I know, we hear it all the time about getting back on track and it all sounds so easy BUT SOMETIMES IT ISN’T. If you can’t get back on track you may need to ask for help and there is NO SHAME IN THAT! Sometimes it is difficult and life can throw curve balls that you have no hope of catching. At these times, DON’T BE AFRAID TO REACH OUT to family, friends or even your doctor. YOU ARE TOO IMPORTANT!Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help. You are worth it.Click To Tweet
