‘Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to Dance in the Rain’. I have seen this quotation many times on facebook so what does it actually mean? Have you ever danced in the rain? Walked in the rain? Run in the rain?
Most of the time when it starts to rain we run for cover, however, if we just danced, walked or run in the rain it can be the most amazing feeling. Standing still, face upturned to feel the raindrops wash away your worries and the fresh smell of rain is invigorating.
Most people don’t enjoy the rain, we are creatures of comfort and try to escape the rain and the storm. Life brings all of us ‘storms’ which we need to deal with. Sometimes they take a while to overcome and we can get bogged down and caught in the storm. This is the time we need to ‘dance in the rain’. Life is still going on while we are facing our ‘storms’ so we need to enjoy what we can in life even while the storm rages.

We can succumb to the storm and stop living while we try to overcome or we can try to make the best of it and make the most of the life we have.

Have you heard the expression – ‘a storm in a teacup’? Sometimes we turn our ‘showers’ into storms and even hurricanes! We get so caught up that we make it larger than it should be. What if we actually met the storm head on and danced?
Facing our challenges head on is the best way to overcome them. Once you face your challenge the burden is removed and you feel able to conquer. Having the attitude of ‘dancing in the rain’, washing away the problems and facing them brings freedom and empowerment. Remember the words to the famous song ‘I’m Singing in the Rain…What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again….just singing and dancing in the rain.’

Next time you are faced with a challenge or ‘storm’ why not start dancing. You will feel so much better!
