Friday Favourites: Be Consistent and See Results

This week’s Friday Favourite is revisiting a post I wrote back in March for an April Challenge I wanted to do with the Fab Fitters over at my #couchpotatotofabfit Facebook group.

As we come to the end of our month of Health & Wellness we are also at the half way mark of the year.  What better way to start the second half of the than setting some goals?

In July the theme will be all about 31 days to Focus on YOU and consistency is an important part.

Be Consistent and See Results

Be consistent

The ideas was simply to choose something you wanted to improve in your health and wellness and be consistent for 30 days.  I chose yoga and I couldn’t believe the improvement in my flexibility and mental health even within the first week.

Like anything in life we have to stick at it if we want it to work.

Consistency is the key to achieving your goal.

What does it really mean?

  • sticking at it when the going gets tough
  • making the time to regularly work on your goal
  • never giving up even if you fall off track
  • measuring your progress

What to do

Select your goal – it might be exercise more, lose weight, no processed foods or to make more time for yourself

Make the commitment – no commitment will mean no success. You only have to commit to yourself no one else so if you aren’t serious you will only let yourself down.

Schedule in your diary the days you will be committed to your goal. For example, you might be wanting to exercise 3 days per week. Select those days, write them in your diary and don’t miss those 3 days per week of exercise. If you are dieting it will be EVERY DAY or maybe 6 DAYS with one day off.

Tick off each time you have worked towards your goal – it is so motivating when you see how you are progressing.

What not to do

Don’t make unrealistic goals – if you do you will be less likely to achieve it. Don’t make your goal ‘exercising daily’ if you know that your lifestyle doesn’t allow it this month. It is better to make your goal 3 days per week AND STICK TO IT!

Don’t give up – if you miss a day okay – admit and move on. Get back on track

Being consistent with your health and wellness goals will ensure you are feeling fit, fabulous, healthier and happier.

What is your health and wellness goal?  Can you be commit to being consistent for 30 days?

Hi, Sue – I did a 30-day yoga challenge a few months back and like you I noticed positive results very quickly. I have maintained a regular yoga schedule (although not daily) and feel the negative impact on my body when I skip yoga and stretching. I look forward to your July series.

Hi Donna! I felt great after my yoga challenge and I’m exactly like you. I don’t do yoga every day but when I don’t do it a certainly can feel it in my body. I hope you enjoy the July series. Have a beautiful weekend my friend. x

This is going to sound silly, but since I’m a paper planner goal I love using stickers to mark the days I get out for the morning exercise walk. But I find that it helps me look back at the month and easily identify how consistent I was with my exercise goal. I figure as long as it motivates me then it’s a good thing.

I think that is a great idea Shelley and have quoted your idea with a link to your blog in an upcoming post. Anything that keeps us motivated is not a silly idea! Have a great weekend!

    Sue,
Can you believe that I have not done yoga in years. I keep thinking of doing it, but that is as far as it goes. I am consistent in my workout schedule however. I walk 3-4 miles each day.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful posts at Over The Moon Party.
    Hugs,
    Bev
