My Top 5 Life Hacks for Happier, Healthier Life

5 top life hacks

Do you struggle to get through everything in a day and find that there is NO TIME FOR YOU or YOUR HEALTH?

In this week’s #FridayReflections, (a FB Blogging group I belong to), one of the writing prompts asked:  “What are your top life hacks?” .

Now call me slow, but I still didn’t get where the word ‘hacks’ came from even though it seems to be the ‘word of the moment’How could I write about my top life hacks if I didn’t know what that meant?

The Oxford Dictionary defines a ‘lifehack’ as

A strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one’s time and daily activities in a more efficient way.

Okay, I now know the meaning of the word and YES I can write about that!!!

However, before I started I was distracted by the number of posts when I Googled ‘life hacks’.  Here are a couple of fun ones I found and I have to say they have some pretty unusal (but cool) hacks:

50 Life Hacks to Simplify Your World

40 Life Hacks that will change your world

So now, back to writing my post!

I’d like to take a bit of a twist on the definition above and concentrate more on your life in general and how you can achieve a happier, healthier lifestyle.

Let me share with you My Top 5 Life Hacks that will help make your life happier and healthier.

I’m all about living for today and finding a BALANCE in my life so I can enjoy life to the max!

What you do today

1. Plan your exercise

We are all busy and the first thing that usually goes by the wayside is our regular workout.  Make an appointment with yourself (or with a workout buddy even better) and schedule the appointment in your calendar.

Regular exercise is so important in keeping us healthy, both physically and mentally.  It reduces stress and we all know deep down that we feel great after a workout.

2. Plan your weekly menus and prep one day per week

Trying to eat a healthy well-balanced diet can quickly go off the rails and be replaced by ‘fast food’ when we are short on time.  Here is where you planning prowess needs to come to the fore!

Set aside one hour a week to plan your menus – 1 hour out of a possible 168 hours in a week – YOU CAN DO THIS!

Then, set aside one day a week to prep your meals.  If you work, buying lunches every day can become expensive apart from the fact that we usually make poor food choices when on the run.

Prepare your meals and snacks ahead of time so that you can just grab and go.  You will save time, feel better because you are eating healthy food and also your finances will look so much healthier.

3. Plan time for FUN

You may have heard the old saying: ‘All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy’.  Well, it is true!

We need to make time to have some FUN in our lifeBeing happy and living a balanced lifestyle helps keep us mentally healthy.

Make time in your diary to socialise with friends, do something you enjoy and something that will make you laugh.

4. Plan to regular health checks

Part of a healthy lifestyle is making sure you take care of yourself and that means regular health checks (especially when you reach 50), knowing your family medical history and regular trips to the dentist.

5. Plan to Have a Rest Day

I’ve talked about planning your exercise, planning and preparing your meals, making time for fun and keeping on top of regular health checks.

My 5th top life hack is planning a rest day (or longer) to relax, refresh and recover.  This means turning off from technology, taking time to nurture yourself, having a lie in and general taking it easy.

Our bodies and minds need time to recover from the hectic demands of life we all seem to be trapped by.  Ideally, we should plan time away from our home environment.  A weekend getaway or a longer holiday will refresh and recharge us.  After an extended break we feel feel fabulous and ready to tackle the challenges of life.

What are your top life hacks?  Are any on my list?

Wonderful advice Sue – so simple and yet so important! It’s all balance, once again – I only started exercising after the age of fifty, but now never miss doing some daily exercise. And always try to make time for some fun because life really is so short.

It doesn’t really take much does it Toni? Sometimes we just get a little too caught up and forget. Have a lovely weekend my friend.

You’ve covered all of mine. I also have a “no driving day.” Where I stay in and keep the car parked. More on this later on the blog. Thank you again for sharing your thankful moment for my post today. I loved it! I get to see my babies tomorrow!!

This is some great advice Sue! I do get exercise from never sitting still, but not from a regular exercise program. So this is one thing I need to work on. And I need to fit in rest time too. Don’t get much of that. And for the fun I guess I’m a little weird, fun for me is working outside, or on my blog.

LOL! I love looking at life hacks, they are so much fun at times, gets my brain thinking in different ways. I am a planner, this helps me so much, it settles my mind if I know what’s coming next, what’s for dinner, etc. These are great tips, I need to focus more on stopping to smell the roses, but some days I am moving so fast I can’t even see a flower, that needs to stop! LOL
