Simple Ways to Rejuvenate Yourself #2 – Exercise Regularly

Rejuvenation! It sounds full of promise, a new start in life. Exercising regularly is important to keep you feeling healthy, active and full of vitality. Of course, exercise is mostly thought of as something we need to do – a chore. BUT, there are ways to exercise regularly and actually ENJOY getting fitter and staying that way.

Rejuvenate Yourself #2 – Exercise Regularly

To maintain fitness and healthy the recommendation for exercise is 150 minutes per week.  You can break that down to say 30 minutes for 5 days a week which is probably the easiest way.

So think about what activity you enjoy and do it!

There are so many ways to exercise – you don’t need to be sweating it out in the gym if that isn’t your thing.

Can’t get motivated?   Join a group or find an exercise buddy.

The three main points to remember are:-

1. Exercise regularly – Make it a habit – just like brushing your teeth!

Schedule in your exercise into your diary just like any other appointment.  You go to the doctor and dentist for a check up, you make time to maybe have your hair and nails done, you make time for coffee and a chat – YOU CAN MAKE TIME FOR EXERCISE which is good for your health.

2. Try to mix it up with cardio and include strength training

Incorporate Cardio and Strength Training into your program. Cardio is any form of movement that elevates your heart rate.  You could go for a brisk walk, run, swim or even lift weights.  Strength training is an important part of any exercise program and one that is sometimes overlooked.

3. Get a health check BEFORE YOU START any new exercise program

Before you go trying to run a marathon after years of not doing any exercise, it is VERY IMPORTANT to have a physical and check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

It is also beneficial to perhaps engage a personal trainer for one or two sessions so they can give you an assessment and write a suitable program for you to follow as well as showing you the correct technique to avoid injury.

I love seeing your pictures of your workouts (that has been the reason I’ve put on my shoes and gotten out there a few times!). I admit, this is the hardest change for me. Thanks for nudging me on!

Thanks Bill! Eating healthy and exercise are just two parts to being healthier and happier. We also need mental health and happiness as well. Watch this space LOL:)

I know Carol I enjoy reading about your gym sessions! The key is to be active – it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you keep moving!

This is so important. Having just had my third child (at mid life!), I am definitely not in the best shape of my life. I used to prioritize exercise every single morning and somehow that has now slipped down the list. But I had an epiphany recently that I need to “just do it!” (Gee, wonder where I’ve heard that). So now, it’s no longer perfect. I can’t just head out for a 10 mile leisurely run anymore. So I do 30 squats while the kids are eating breakfast. Or a plank while they’re brushing they’re teeth. Lift the baby up and down 30 times to make him laugh and tone up those arms. And so far, little by little, I am seeing some results.

What an inspiration you are Faye! My type of lady for sure! We all have time to fit in some exercise however sometimes you just have to think outside the box like you are doing. Congratulations on your third child and yes lifting the baby up and down is certainly a work out! Good for you and keep up the good work.

You hit the nail on the head about making your workouts an appointment you schedule. I have found when I started thinking of my workout this I know that is the time I take for me and it is just as important as any other appointment.

I know Melissa it is a good way to keep myself in check. I also have two scheduled PT sessions per week. As you say you need to take time for yourself – to me that is so important for our health and wellbeing.
