Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers AwardSometimes people ask me why I started a blog and I tell them – for me.  I don’t think they quite appreciate the satisfaction I get in writing posts and hearing that I have encouraged others to live life to the full.

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a nomination for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award from Debbie who blogs at Debbie in Shape. Debbie is a ‘pocket rocket’ and has had her fair share of health issues.  However, I admire here because she never loses her enthusiasm and constantly encourages us all by promoting not just health, fitness and lifestyle but also helping new bloggers with ideas.

Some may say that this award (like the Liebster Award) is just given to anyone.  I disagree, and feel that this attitude devalues the purpose and meaning behind the award.

These types of awards or nominations, are a great way to encourage new bloggers and make them feel as though their blog is worthwhile.  It shows that someone cares enough to nominate you and share your contribution to the blogging fraternity.  Answering the questions also gives others an understanding of who you are as a person and a blogger.

Debbie devised ten questions which I have answered below.  I hope you will get to know me a little better from my answers.

Questions From Debbie to Me

1. Are you a morning person?

I’m definitely a morning person and especially love to get up and get going with a run.  I then come home and have a lazy cup of coffee with my husband.  Sometimes I just get up and into the study to work on my blog and facebook pages.  I also do social media management for small companies so am kept busy with that and an early start means more time in the day.

2. Which do you prefer: the mountains or the sea?

I love the sea.  We have an apartment on the Gold Coast in Queensland and we often run away to there.  It is near the beach so I enjoy walking along the beach with my husband or just sitting and looking at the ocean which is always mesmerizing and relaxing.

3. What is your most read blog post?

My post “Give yourself a Break – Wonder Woman Doesn’t Exist in the Real World”

I think this resonated with all women who are trying to do it all and feeling guilty if they don’t.  Their expectations of themselves are so high, I just wanted to say it is OK to take a step back and say No occasionally.

4. Who is your blogger role-model? One that you aspire to be like.

I have been blogging for 4 months now and I have met some wonderful and supportive bloggers.  I have been so surprised at their willingness to help me and advise me.  I knew nothing of link up parties or how to get my blog ‘out there’ and now I co-host two link up parties which I love.

I don’t want to single one person out but these ladies are who I would aspire to be like.  They are not just interested in promoting themselves but are mentoring and helping new bloggers like myself and I appreciate that quality tremendously.

5. Which city or country would you like to visit?

We are going to India in October and I can’t wait!  I have never been before and it will certainly be a shock to the senses but I find that I want to explore cultures that are different to where I live and India will surely fit that brief!

6. What is your favorite motivational quote?

I have a few but I think the one on my website and facebook page captures my philosophy on life.

Sizzling Towards Sixty

7. When you are not blogging you are…

I am supposed to be retired so love spending time with my husband and family.  I take care of my grandson one day per week.  I also have a bookkeeping client, and a couple of clients for whom I maintain their websites and social media marketing.  I love travelling with my husband and running away to the Coast when we can for relaxation.   I also love running with my Saturday Sisters and working out with my fabulous P.T.  My life is full and wonderful and I’m Sizzling Towards 60 definitely.

8. What is your favorite social media platform?

I’m new to the blogging scene and have learnt so much in my last three months.  I still rely heavily on facebook because that is what I am used to.  I am learning about and using Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest much more now that I am linking up to Blog Parties & Link Ups.

9. Apple or Android?

Apple iPhone although I have an Android tablet which my husband purchased for me and I take that on my travels as my e-book. I love reading and it saves space having my books loaded onto the tablet rather than adding 6 or so books to my suitcase.

10. What is the most important tip about blogging you have learned?

Quality not quantity!  Don’t try to push inspiration if it isn’t there just to publish another post.  You end up producing a post which is below your usual standard and readers can see that you haven’t put the time into it.

My nominees

Nominating fellow bloggers isn’t easy as there are so many that I enjoy interacting with and reading their posts.  These are in no particular order however I do encourage you to link up with them and take a look at their websites.  I love the variety they all contribute.

Thank you Sue for this award. It always amazes me with the friendships that emerge from blogging, and to be nominated for a Sisterhood of World Blogging is a honour.
I have so many girls out there that are also very worthy of this award so I accept. Thanks again Sue

  2. Marcia @ Blogitudes

What a pleasant surprise to find this morning upon waking. 🙂 Thank you very much, Sue for the nomination. I greatly appreciate that you thought of me and I’d be honored to accept this award. I have several obligations that need tending to before I can do up a post to answer the questions, etc … but I will do one as soon as time permits. Thank you again. And congratulations to you for receiving this award as well! 🙂

My pleasure Marcia. I haven’t know you long however I do like your philosophy in your blog and the #1word link up. Whenever you do it is fine I just wanted to nominate you.

Thank you Sue for thinking of me! I am honored. It will be hard to nominate, since you chose a lot of the gals I would have chosen, but finding others in rhis great blogging community shouldn’t be too hard!

My pleasure Marilyn! You work so hard with your blog and co-hosting and combining that with a family I admire you. You deserve it and yes there are many out there who would appreciate being nominated.

I agree with you re: these type of awards. We need to appreciate the ultimate purpose which is to honor our hard work. I blog for me but also to keep building on the recognition and credibility I obtained owning my baked goods business for a few years. When I gave it up, I didn’t want to give up writing so I started a new blog. Fortunately for my husband, who I now work with full time, it does attract new clients to his mortgage company, not because I am necessarily writing about mortgages but because I am very real and genuine and people want to do business with those that are willing to put themselves out there. I never have a problem with that!

Business in the long term relies on being genuine with your clients. They will respect and learn to trust you and keep coming back. Thanks for commenting and good luck with the mortgage business. I’m glad you are still writing.
