What is the Best Mother’s Day Gift You Can Give?

mother's day

For the last few months I have been to be writing articles for ‘The Seeing Me Project’ a great initiative set up by Millers Fashion.  Millers is a leading Australian fashion retailer and the aim of ‘The Seeing Me Project’ is to encourage and provide a voice for women 40+.

The Woman of Midlife has much to offer and ‘The Seeing Me Project’ recognizes and promotes this.  I am honoured to be part of this initiative, promoting Women experiencing this wonderful phase of life.

This month my contribution for ‘The Seeing Me Project’ is just in time for Mother’s Day.  As a mother (and grandmother), Mother’s Day is all about spending time with my children.  It isn’t about the gifts it is about actually taking the time to enjoy each other’s company and spend quality time together.

Usually we are bombarded weeks in advance by the media with gift ideas for Mum.  In my article I share ways you can spend TIME with your Mum and actually give her the best gift of all – YOU!

You can read my article below and hopefully my tips will help you plan that special Mother’s Day for that Special Woman – Your Mother.

The gift that keeps Giving

Your post is great Sue! I agree that having a special day with your daughter would be the best gift ever! My girls are still young and love to surprise me with their little crafts and creations but I will keep these ideas in mind for when they are a bit older! Thank you for sharing at Sweet Inspiration #3! Have a lovely Sunday!

this was such a great summing up of what mums really want for Mothers Day – it’s not about physical gifts so much as it’s about gifts from the heart – giving time, giving attention, reflecting back the love that has been given over the years. Beautiful post Sue x

so true! My brother actually said to my mum we should have lunch the day before mothers day (he doesn’t have kids) so my sister and I could just be with our “own” families on mothers day. Both my sister and I said no that we wanted to see mum on the actual mothers day! yes we have our own little families, but our mum is part of that. She would be so sad if we didn’t see her and we would be too. #mg

Yes we don’t have our mums forever Mackenzie so it is nice to spoil them while we can. Have a beautiful Mother’s Day.

Lovely post and you have said it well. All a mum wants is to be with her children, to hear them talk, to hear them laugh, to just see them, to just be with them, even for five minutes. #mg

Exactly! I wish my mum was still here so I could share my special times with her. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day x

Sue, what fabulous ideas. My mother always appreciated just hanging out together more than the actual gifts that I bought her except for the year that I wrote a poem (which I had not done in years before that, to my Mom’s chagrin) for her and had it printed, matted, and framed. But still, her favorite Mother’s Days were just the two of us hanging out. I really like that all of your ideas are quality time and not just activities. Thank you so much for sharing this with Upsy Daisy Linkup!

Yes I miss my mum Regina and would give anything just to have a cup of tea and a chat with her. As we get older we start to really value spending time with our family rather than the material side of life.

Yes it is hard not to see them all the time I would think Kathleen but at least we have FB and skype etc. Have a beautiful day and thanks for your comment. x

Sue, I don’t know whether to feel inspired by this post, or want to cry. Just kidding, I really am inspired, but now I am really missing my mom! This is a beautiful article, Sue, and so very true. As a daughter who lives far away from my mom, AND as a mom who lives far away from my daughter, this year I will be spending Mother’s Day with neither one of them. Your “gift of time” has been on my mind much lately, needless to say. I know my mother enjoys receiving heartfelt “snail mail” from me more than ever, and I just don’t do it enough. I am working on a book of memories for her. We don’t have many photos of times when I was younger, so I am writing my memories — things I remember doing with her, things she taught me, etc. It’s a slow process and unfortunately won’t be completed by Mother’s Day, but maybe I’ll have an excerpt I can send her. 🙂

Oh I’m touched by your lovely words Wendy! It is hard not being in the same place as your mum and daughter. At least I have my daughter who only lives 10 minutes away but alas I don’t have my mum and I still miss her. What a lovely idea working on your memories for your Mum she will love it and I think an excerpt would be a perfect gift. Have a happy mother’s day!

    Hi Sue,

You are absolutely right about Mother’s Day. It is not about the gifts but the time spent with our mothers. This is why I usually buy that day something meaningful. In this way I honor our relationship. Thank you for all the inspiration!

That is lovely Zaria to purchase something meaningful. I know as children we want to spoil our Mum and as a mother we just want to spend time with our kids – of course we like being spoilt too!
