Continuing with the theme of February being fit and fabulous, I encourage you to continuously commit to new things and evolve. Taking care of ourselves is not just about our physical fitness, but also finding things to keep us mentally and spiritually healthy. Trying and learning new things is great exercise for our brains and well as our general well-being.
Here are 10 new things to try in 2019 to get that ageless attitude!
1. Practice something you’ve always been interested in
Have you always been fascinated with beautiful pictures? Or maybe you wish you learned the piano as a child? Practice something that you’re interested in and try to become an expert at it. This will not only help you evolve in 2019 but it will also keep life fun and interesting to learn something new!
2. Conquer a fear
It doesn’t have to be an intense fear of yours, but it is a great idea to learn how to conquer your fear so you can overcome it. Oftentimes in life, fears are what hold us back. Fear of failing, fear of change, fear of the unknown, and so on. Think about what fears are holding you back in life, and choose one you’d like to conquer.
3. Get outside more
There’s nothing like fresh air to raise your spirits. Find things you enjoy doing outside to get you out of the house more. You can go bike riding, hiking, roller blading, or even just to walk around. Getting outside more will help you appreciate the simpler things!
4. Find an exercise routine that you actually enjoy
We all know that in order to live a healthy life, it’s important to work out. However, it’s equally as important to find a routine that works for you and that you actually enjoy doing. If you enjoy what you’re doing, you’re more likely to stay motivated and continue your routine.
5. Go on a trip by yourself
Planning a little getaway by yourself is a great idea if you want to to clear your mind and make time for yourself. This is especially important if there’s a place you’ve always wanted to go to but you can never find someone who’s willing to commit to going. You can be spontaneous and take a big trip by yourself or even just a little day trip here and there. If you are traveling alone, check out these tips!
6. Try a healthy cooking class
Sometimes the hardest part about eating healthy is figuring out how to precisely replicate those recipes you find online. Take a healthy cooking class to learn how to prepare meals that you enjoy or want to try so that you can incorporate them into your weekly menu.
7. Take care of your skin
Our skin is our largest organ and we should take care of it accordingly. Great ways to take care of your skin in your 50’s include incorporating more hydrating products into your routine, such as facial oils and collagen-boosting cream. It’s also important to drink tons of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. It’s also crucial to protect your skin from sun damage by always using sunscreen when you’re outside, even if it’s a chillier day.
8. Think positively about aging
As we age, we may find ourselves looking back on more youthful days, focusing on the increase in grey hairs, or noticing major changes in our bodies. But in 2019, I encourage you to embrace the aging process and love yourself as you change. There’s so much to love about ourselves as we get older and it’s exciting to discover something new everyday.
9. Reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in awhile
Think about the people you haven’t spoken to in awhile because of differences in schedules or distance. Try reaching out to someone to reconnect and catch up. This will bring you back down memory lane and be so much fun to see someone you haven’t in awhile. You may be the one to initiate this reunion but it will be well worth it!
10. Refresh your look
If you feel like you’ve had the same haircut or same clothes for awhile, try refreshing your look with something new— but still in your taste. Trying something new with your look can be a good change and can be a great representation of how you’ve evolved.
