Festive Season

Quick & Easy Festive Gift Ideas for Unexpected Guests

November 16, 2016

The Festive Season is fast approaching and I don’t know about you, but I always seem to have someone visit with a gift that I wasn’t expecting. I hate not having something on hand in this scenario so these days I wrap a couple of extra gifts just in case.

The Festive Season can be stressful enough so take the stress out and be prepared.

Wrap the gifts ahead of time and put under the tree and you are ready. Of course, if you don’t use them all most can be kept for another occasion or worst case you have to use them yourself!

Here are some Quick & Easy Festive Gift Ideas for Unexpected Guests

1. Homemade Treats

Everyone loves homemade goodies especially over the holidays. When I’m baking for the holiday season, I ensure I make extra for those ‘just in case’ gifts. People appreciate the love of something you have made yourself.

2. Handmade Soaps

I don’t actually make my own soap but I buy from local markets and have a few on hand for the unexpected guest. Most women love perfumed soap and wrapped festively they make a lovely gift.

3. Chocolates or Nibblies

A box of premium chocolates is always a gift that is appreciated. When shopping, pop a couple of boxes on your list and then wrap and place under the tree.

Another alternative is to fill mason jars with chocolates or nuts or other candy. Tie a festive ribbon around the jar and your gift is done.

4. Tea

I love tea and today we have specialty tea shops which I just adore exploring. There are so many varieties available and packaged beautifully so keep a couple on hand.

5. Wine or Bubbles or Non Alcohol versions

6.  Scented Candles

I love scented candles but never buy them for myself.  Having a couple on hand wrapped with a festive ribbon will definitely be appreciated.

Great ideas Sue! I went to a Christmas market this weekend, so I am starting to get in the spirit. You can’t go wrong with having some scented candles or soaps/lotions from Bath and Body Works on hand for “surprise” gifts. Do you have that retail chain in Australia? Their stuff smells heavenly. I also like to give cute kitchen accessories like pretty patterned tea towels or dish cloths.

Thanks Michelle! I don’t think we have Bath and Body Works in Australia but we have the Body Shop which I think is similar. Yes they all smell heavenly don’t they. The patterned tea towels and dish cloths are another great idea.

Great ideas Sue and I really needed some inspiration! I’m off to the shops in the next few days to look for some gifts and your ideas will be at the top of my list.

Thanks, Sue, for the reminder! I used to always keep several generic gifts in my gift closet, when I was married. I need to get prepared again!

This provides a solution for that awkward situation when an unexpected present arrives. I like that they are still useful to you if you don’t need to give them away.

That is why I like them Barbara, because if I don’t give them away I can still use them or some of them can be kept for birthday gifts etc.

I like small food gifts for unexpected guests or hostess gifts. Who doesn’t love a food treat? A pretty box of specialty chocolates is easy and there is always someone who likes a chocolate treat!

Exactly Michele – I know I love receiving these types of gifts.

For the neighbours I always make chocolate covered nuts (I don’t make them, I wrap up jars festively…but I put them in the jars as it’s about half price of the actual jars that are sold). This year, I had a kris kringle where I had to send Australiana to someone overseas, and part of what I got her, along with the fluffy kangaroo was a copy of Wake in Fright. I ordered extra copies so that’s my go to gift of the unexpected peeps this xmas. Brilliant book, and a lot of people haven’t read it….

Oh I must check out Wake in Fright Lydia thanks for the tip. I’m sure your friend will love the fluffy Kangaroo and your chocolate covered nuts sound yummy.
