August Theme Reveal – Ageing Well in August

July 31, 2019
Ageing Well

It’s August and I had told myself that I would not continue a monthly theme this month. The #JournalinginJuly Challenge was pretty full on but I was appreciative of the many positive comments and the participation. It was so lovely to read your thoughts and also the comments you gave me about what I had written. It appears we have all come to know each other a little better.

And so to a new month and my initial thoughts to not have a theme. I argued with myself that:

  • It is time consuming – writing posts, organising guest posts, and daily posts to social media with a quote or tip
  • A theme might not appeal to everyone
  • It isn’t easy to think of a theme (especially one that starts with the same letter of the month!)

Of course, I didn’t listen to myself and as I was sitting on my balcony watching the sunrise one morning last week, Inspiration visited me.

May I present the theme for August with a drumroll plase…..

Ageing Well in August

We all want to age well and enjoy life after 50 and especially in the Third Age. Some of us are continually looking for the fountain of youth but what is ageing well?

Ageing Well

What is Ageing Well?

To me, ageing well is a combination of many things:

Taking care of our body inside and out – We only have one body and as we age we need to maintain it more. That means moving, eating well, making time for reflection, rest and relaxation plus also scheduling medical appointments.

Functional Fitness – not only being able to lead an active life but being able to carry out daily tasks with ease. It means a regular exercise program of movement that we enjoy and the addition of strength training.

Nourishing our body, mind and soul – ensuring that we provide our bodies with nutritious food to provide energy and keep our immune system healthy. Importantly it is also about providing nourishment for our mind by continually learning and growing and nourishing our soul by making time for self-care, reflection, mindfulness and gratitude.

Staying connected – our diaries don’t have to be booked up but we do need to stay connected socially and interact with people of all ages. The young keep us young by challenging our ideas and beliefs. In turn, we can teach them from our life experience. Connecting with others who share the same interests or just catching up with a coffee and a chat can do wonders for our mental health.

Being happy and contented with yourself – this is the ultimate way to age well. Knowing ourselves and living a life of authenticity is one of the keys to ageing well. If we are living the life we want and are happy and contented then we are cherishing each day and living with gratitude. If we aren’t happy or contented, well it is never too late to do something about it.

Let go of what is holding you back from living the life you want.

How will Ageing Well in August work?

During the month I have invited a weekly guest to write their thoughts on Ageing Well. I will be sharing my thoughts in all the areas I feel help us to Age Well – lifestyle, health and self-reflection. I will also be posting a daily tip in the Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond Facebook Group to remind, inspire and motivate us to focus on living life well. If you aren’t a member, come join us!

Debbie Harris from Deb’s World who joined me for #JournalinginJuly will also be joining me again this month. We will continue with the Saturday link up for those of you who would like to link a post related to any of the tips I’ve included in the image below or your own thoughts on Ageing Well. The first link up will start on Saturday, August 10th.

Who doesn’t want to keep enjoying life?

Will you join me for Ageing Well in August?

I’ve come up with a list of 31 ways we can Age Well to get you started. Perhaps you have some thoughts on how you are or would like to age well. I would love to hear them and add them to my list.

You are so inspiring, Sue! So much energy! I am doing a 30 day challenge and am trying to find time each day to meditate. I love your theme and will follow it throughout August!

Thank you Theresa, that is what I aim to do – inspire others. Good luck with the meditation challenge. I did one last year and struggled until I realised it was okay if sometimes your mind wanders. Mine kept wandering off in all directions LOL:) x

I’m glad you decided on a theme. I loved joining in with journalling in July – this one will be more of a challenge for me, but that’s what it’s about!

Hi Jo, I’m glad I found inspiration for a theme but as we are away for a few weeks in September I might have to have a break then. I’m looking forward to August’s theme and have had some very positive responses. x

Great theme again Sue! I look forward to reading the posts this theme brings forth during the month of August! I can’t believe it’s nearly August already. Have a wonderful week! xo

Hi Min, sometimes I wonder where my inspiration comes from but again I found something that resonates with everyone. xx

Once again, this is an awesome theme, Sue. I greatly look forward to reading more!

Yes, Sue! I love this well-rounded approach to aging well. Often we get so focused on maintaining our physical bodies, we neglect the mental and emotional aspects of aging well. Of course, it’s all intertwined; each affects the other. Here’s to another exciting monthly theme! #MLSTL

I’m really looking forward to your August posts (and being one of your guests) Sue. I think this is such an important topic for all of us. So many women in their 50’s, 60’s and onwards are living such full lives and we need to encourage others to join in and not let this stage of life pass us by.
Thanks again for sharing the #MLSTL hosting and I’ve shared this on my SM xx

Hi Sue, I especially like your last tip- “Being happy and contented with yourself .” If you can do that, the rest is easier. I actually think that is the goal in my latest stage of life. You have a great list of other things as well. If we could all accomplish those other 31 things we would be living well!

  • Reply Donna McNicol July 31, 2019 at 13:08

What a great theme – I love the categories!! #MLSTL shared on SM

You are so ambitious, Sue! I love the theme for August, of course, and think that we should all print out your list and hang it where we see it every day! xo

  • Reply Debbie Harris July 31, 2019 at 20:55

This will be another great month Sue! I think the prompts are very useful and relevant to us all, Looking forward to it! Have shared for #mlstl

I really like your monthly themes! Even though I’m a regular journal keeper, I printed the Journaling in July list and added a line or 2 most mornings about the daily prompt! Not a full post-worthy paragraph, but I enjoyed “playing along”. And I’m going to print your August 31 and think about each one similarly… How am I being a woman with attitude, how am I moving, etc. Thanks for continuing to inspire me!

Sounds wonderful I might just join in. Having several chronic illness’s its very important to look after the body and mind. I could just sit back and say oh well and let them take over.

Some great tips and ideas for ageing well Sue, I’m trying to eat better and I need to stop my snacking habits as a start to this. I’ll look out for your ageing well link up & join in with the theme.

Hi Sue, I see some things on your list that already apply to my life, and a lot that I need to pay attention to. Looking forward to seeing how August developes.

    Hi Sue,
I really like this new series of yours. Ageing well has so many different aspects, doesn’t it. And what is interesting is that everyone is more interested or focused in different areas. AND these interests can change.
Looking forward to reading your blog and others’ input on it this month for sure.
    Have a great day!

Wonderfully inspiring Sue. I love the theme and all the ideas you mention. So important at any age but especially as we get older. Have a fabulous month! xx

I found inspiration at the last moment, Miriam but I’m very happy with the theme. It has certainly received a positive response. Hope your August is wonderful, enjoy! xx

No stopping you now Sue! I started a J for July theme for myself last year and it went to November (notes in Nov) because I felt I had more to say. Best wishes with this one like the others you enjoyed creating.

Hi Denyse, I’m not sure how long I will keep the themes going but each month new inspiration seems to pop up. We are off to Alaska and Canada in September so I will be taking a break although at the back of my mind I do have a theme I could run whilst I’m away. We will see. 🙂 xx
