Best of Boomer Blogs – August

Once we get past midlife it’s not unusual to assess where we’re at with our lives. At A Healing Spirit, Carol Cassara is asking about regrets and how we live a life without regrets. Is it even possible? Her readers have chimed in and hope you will, too. Read more on How you can live your life with no regrets

Jennifer, from Unfold And Begin, reminds us that it’s ok to be a beginner.  That we shouldn’t be afraid to fail in our first attempt at trying anything new.  In We’re Scared To Death To Try New Things, she reminds us that we can’t be perfect at something we’ve never tried before and that we need to be willing to take baby steps to build up to bigger things.

Most of us are familiar with the Ten Commandments, even if we don’t know them all, or follow them all. But they are universal truths that can help us with any aspect of our lives, including retirement. So Tom Sightings has come up with The Ten Commandments of Retirement … only, he could only think of nine.Do you have an idea for another good commandment to follow for a rewarding retirement?Travel through Alaska & Canada’s Yukon Territory

Self-worth – how would you rate yours? Do you sometimes feel that you aren’t good enough?  This week, at Sizzling Towards Sixty & Beyond I look at the Importance of Appreciating your Self-Worth and why we need to acknowledge our achievements rather than diminishing their importance.

Following a journey through parts of Alaska and Canada’s Yukon Territory, Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting is home catching up on sleep and doctors visits, the dentist, hair appointment, etc., and wonders how she ever fit all these tasks in while working full time. Unable to add pictures to her articles most of the time she was away due to poor internet connections, she took time to post pictures of her journey in A Picture Perfect Trip.

Civil Rights & Consumer News

Rebecca Olkowski with BabyBoomster.com listened to a speaker at a networking group she attended who addressed the issue of human trafficking. She is a member of the FBI Civil Rights Unit. Did you know if could be happening in your own neighborhood? Read about what to look for here.

On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, reports on the good and bad consumer news from last week. The good news is that a federal appeals court court has directed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ban the use of the agricultural pesticide chlorpyrifos.

Chlorpyrifos, a widely-used pesticide on food crops — including those consumed by infants, young children, and pregnant women — is shown to negatively impact proper development and functioning of the central nervous system and brain.

The bad news is that the U.S. Department of Education will rescind the Gainful Employment Rule, a federal regulation designed to protect students and taxpayers from predatory for-profit schools.
