Celebrating a milestone birthday

August 31, 2017

If you have been following my blog you will know that on the 23rd August I turned 60 and my theme for August was based around Celebrating Life Now!

As part of my birthday celebrations my lovely daughter Rachel and my darling husband Mike organised a birthday party.

Back in May, whilst running in our traditional Mother’s Day Run, Rachel asked what I was doing for my birthday.  In her words – ‘just tell me what you want, Mum and I’ll make it happen’.  Mike had originally said he wasn’t good at organising but once a celebration had been decided, he and Rachel became totally committed to making my day very special and one to be remembered.

I’ve never known Mike to want me out of the house so much! He has been involved in ‘secret party business’ over the last few weeks and kept telling me to go out for a while!  Cries of ‘don’t come in!’ and ‘Why don’t you go to the Ekka (The Royal Queensland Show), with the girls’ – which was a first!  Made we wonder what he was up to!

Rachel, organised the cake which was gorgeous and tasted delicious. I just loved the invitation she designed which was part of the ‘floral’ theme. I know how incredibly busy she is with work, business travel and home life being a Mum, so I really appreciated all she did to make the day happen.

I thank them both so much for all they did to make my birthday celebrations perfect and I love them both so much.

Celebrating a milestone birthday

The party was held at a local hotel in a small private room, on a Sunday afternoon.  Family and friends came along and helped me to celebrate this milestone in my life.  Nonna, my MIL,  even came along although I have quite a way to go to catch up to her at 91 years old.

On the day, I could finally see what all the ‘ secret party business’ was about.  Mike had made beautiful flower arrangements which were placed on several tables.  He organised the background music including my favourite ABBA songs and also photos of my life shown on the big screen in a power point display.  Some of the photos I cringed at but all in all it was a lovely history of my life and brought back many memories.

It was such a wonderful afternoon and looking around at my family and friends enjoying themselves it warmed my soul.  We enjoyed platters of finger food, wine, beer, soft drink and of course, Bubbly!!

The party was a success and I couldn’t have asked for more.  I was pleased we had it at a venue as it really took the pressure off Rachel and Mike and once they had set up, could enjoy themselves.

Oh thanks Deb, I had a wonderful day and then on my actual birthday spent the morning with my daughter and darling grandson. We then went to the Coast for a few days so couldn’t ask for me. x

It tasted even better than it looked Ingrid! We were having cake for the next week LOL:)

Your celebrations looked great. One of my friends asked if I wanted her to organise something for me (no partner / kids or anyone to do it for me and she thought I might have not wanted to do it myself / it might have felt weird to do it myself).

My main probably is that I still really don’t know what it is I want to do for my 50th, so I’ll continue to contemplate it for a while yet. #teamlovinlife

You will know what suits you Deb. I would have loved an ABBA party but then I thought it would be hard with the grandchildren and also these days my friends and I are probably in bed by 8pm so it wouldn’t have been a long nigh LOL:) I’m sure whatever you do it will be wonderful and enjoy every moment. xx

Yes I was very loved and spoilt, Denyse and so grateful for my loving husband and children.

Looks like you had such a fabulous celebration and how much love and happiness you were able to share around on your special day was lovely too. Sometimes these Big 0 celebrations are more about others than us I think – and that is lovely.

I couldn’t have asked for more Jo, surrounded by my friends and family who wanted to make me feel loved and special – which they did. xx

Hope the 60’s turn out even better than your 50’s did – I’m sure you’ll be rocking the decade ahead and I’ll be following along with you xx

    • Reply Sue Loncaric August 31, 2017 at 14:12

The photos were lovely and Nathan’s girlfriend, who is a photographer took them so I didn’t have to worry about making sure someone was taking photos! I just feel so wonderful at the moment Leanne and know that even though life is not always easy I feel so happy and comfortable with the way my life is going. It’s a pity I couldn’t share it with my best blogging buddy but I loved your virtual cake xxx

It was perfect Kathy and who knows I might share some of my old photos. I had told my husband no photos between the age of 5 and 50 but of course he didn’t listen. Everyone was amazed at the number of hairstyles I’ve had in my 60 years LOL:)

What a wonderful 60th celebration Sue. Your family pulled together to make your party very special for you. I thought the floral decoration made by your husband was particularly touching. Not many men I know would do that. So, I thought this was an especially beautiful and touching gift. And great photos for you to cherish and enjoy in the future. Best wishes for happy times throughout your 60th year. 🙂

    • Reply Sue Loncaric September 2, 2017 at 04:38

Yes he is a bit of a keeper Estelle LOL:) It was a perfect afternoon and I still feel happy thinking about it. I didn’t want to bore everyone with my photos so only selected a few (although I put quite a few on my personal FB page). We are now preparing for our holiday to Spain and Italy in 4 weeks time so exciting times for me that is for sure. Have a beautiful weekend, Estelle. x

I enjoyed getting a peak into your birthday party. I think I will have a party for my 60th (another year to go) but I do not like surprises so I will plan it for myself!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric September 2, 2017 at 04:36

I had a lovely party Michele and you should really mark the occasion in which ever way you want. Mine wasn’t actually a surprise because I had given Rachel & my husband an idea of what I wanted and then they just organised it. The flowers on the table which Mike made plus the slideshow of photos of me throughout my life were a surprise though.

What a beautiful way to celebrate such a special occasion! Mike, Rachel, Nathan and all of the ‘secret party business’ planners did an outstanding job! I was thinking of you on your special day (once I actually got the date right) and sent you ‘good birthday vibes’ from Spain. Hope you felt them! 🙂
