October flew by so let’s have a coffee (or tea) catchup and I can share what has been happening in my world during the month. I would love you to share what you have been up to in the comments section below and keep the conversation going.
The Highlight of October
Most of you would know and appreciate that the highlight of October was our trip to Japan. We flew to Tokyo and embarked on the Diamond Princess in Yokohama for a 14 day cruise around Japan and South Korea.
Being away for two weeks was wonderful but I definitely missed my grandsons, Ethan & Elliot. Ethan welcomed me home with a drawing of two Lorikeets eating a bottle brush plus an extra big hug. My heart melted as he told me how much he had missed his Nan. Elliot who is now 5 months old was full of smiles and filled my heart with joy.
This month we celebrated our grandson Camden’s 5th birthday so in my usual tradition, I made a special birthday cake. I had to think fast as I had only returned from our trip two days before, so I decided on a Lego Cake which he loved.
Volunteering at my MIL’s aged care home took a back seat in October but I still managed to help out at two events. The first was a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer which was a BBQ and a visit from a Biker Group. The residents just loved watching the big Harley Davidson bikes drive in and around the carpark and my MIL was quick to have her photo taken beside one.
The second event was the Celebration of Life ceremony. It was a beautiful service remembering those residents who have passed away during the year. Many of the relatives attended and it was quite emotional.
Health and Wellness
I did manage to get to the Gym and a Zumba class on the cruise ship which I loved and I was surprised how many men attended! After completing my marathon in August, I’ve given my body a rest and mainly concentrated on yoga and shorter runs. We need to listen to our bodies and take care of them because we only have one.
Reading & Watching
During October I read a number of books and have just finished The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. Set in WWI and just after WWII we are introduced to two main characters, Eve, who is a spy in France for the British during WWI and Charlie who is looking for her cousin who lost touch in France during WWII. Both women come together to revisit France together to resolve their demons. It is a great book and would thoroughly recommend it.
During October I made a brave decision and actually took a break from blogging and social media. In the past I would have frantically scheduled posts and tried to post to social media during our travels. This time, I was inspired by Donna Connelly from Retirement Reflections who took a six week break during July and came back refreshed and relaxed.
I was thrilled and humbled to receive many messages of support for my break and also messages welcoming me back. I have a wonderful community of readers and fellow bloggers that I am blessed to have in my life.
I have so many ideas of where I want to take my blog but also realise that the world doesn’t end if I don’t publish a post. I’m hoping to fulfill my goals for the blog but at a slower pace so I can enjoy blogging as well as other areas of my life. 2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year as along as I remember to pace myself!
I am continuing to love the Over 50 & Thriving series and October was no exception. I only had three contributors, Natalie from Natalie the Explorer, Denyse Whelan and Christine from Booming On. This month’s topics covered fun, health and relationships. If you missed them just click on the links below.
Retiring with Joy Monthly MeetUp
I was honoured to be a guest at the Retiring with Joy Monthly Meet Up to discuss my thoughts on positive aging and how I keep Sizzling after 60! It was wonderful to meet such an interesting and energetic group of women who are making the most of life After 50. Thanks to Maria Paternakis for the invitation and I would recommend you take a look at her FB Group ‘Retiring with Joy’.
Well I think that just about covers my adventures during October and I hope you enjoyed our coffee catch up.
Have a beautiful November and I look forward to another coffee catchup with you next month.
