My Virtual Coffee Catch Up for March

March is coming to a close so let’s have a coffee (or tea) catchup and I can share what has been happening in my world during the month.  Don’t forget to share what you have been up to in the comments section below and keep the conversation going.

It sounds cliched but was it only yesterday we were celebrating a New Year, a new word for the year and great expectations for the year ahead?  Where has the last three months gone?  Last year I was linking up to a Sentence A Day with Leslie from Once Upon A Time, Happily Ever After.  However, this year has been so busy I’ve found it easier just to give a monthly review of what I’ve been up to.  My friend, Leanne from Cresting the Hill introduced me to a virtual coffee catch up and it is a great way to share what has been happening.

A New Season

Autumn has arrived in Australia, although where I live in Brisbane, Queensland someone forgot to tell the weather gods.  The temperatures are still in the 30Cs and everyone is still enjoying the beach life and wearing summer clothes.  I can feel Autumn is trying to push through as the mornings are definitely cooler and I love it!

Flying Solo

During the month, my husband has been away for three weeks.  This is the first time in 20 years I have lived on my own and although it was a great opportunity to do things that I wanted to, I found myself a little lost.  It certainly brought home to me what life would be like if I was permanently alone.  Something just didn’t feel right.  We are both independent people but it was surprising that I felt ‘out of sorts’ and not really in the mood to do anything.

One morning, I decided to walk a few doors up to a new coffee shop and treat myself to a coffee and lemon and poppy seed muffin.  I rarely have coffee on my own and it was so pleasant taking time out for myself, the day was glorious with blue skies and sunshine and the muffin was delicious.

Giving Back

I regularly volunteer at my MIL’s aged care home and this month we went to the Movies!  We saw The Greatist Showman and everyone enjoyed it  immensely.  I am always reminded of how lucky I am to have my health as we load residents in wheelchairs or with their walkers on and off the bus.  It is easy to take the ease of walking for granted isn’t it?

Happy Families

We are expecting a grandbaby – brother or sister to my darling Ethan in June.  I have been taking the opportunity to take my grandson to kindy a couple of mornings each week.  This takes the pressure off my daughter and she can just leave for work without the hassle of kindy drop off.  It also gives me the opportunity for some Ethan time which is always a joyful way to start my day.

My MIL, who will be 92 in June has recently taken up a new activity at her aged care home.  She has started painting and art classes – something she has never done before.   Her latest work I thought was worth framing and what a positive inspiration proving that we are definitely never to old to start learning or trying new things.

Exercise & Eating Well

I continue to run twice a week with my Saturday Sisters and not only is this a time for us to exercise it is also a time to chat and catch up.  A wonderful way to combine keeping fit and social connection and I would recommend having this type of friendship to everyone.

We are fortunate to have a beautiful riverside city to run through making the run so enjoyable.

I have also continued my yoga once or twice a week although my weight and body workouts have not been as frequent as I would like.  At least I’m moving several times a week which is a positive.

I’ve also discovered green smoothies which are quick, easy to make and keep me satisfied.  I throw some protein powder, water, yoghurt, spinach leaves and sometimes a banana or oats into a blender and whizz away.  It is really delicious and I’m certainly getting my ‘greens’ each day.

A Work out with a trainer to the stars

As you probably know, I run with the Saturday Sisters every week.  We were excited to run to Southbank and then take part in a group workout with the amazing Michelle Bridges.  Michelle, has been a personal trainer to celebrities, was a trainer on the Australian Biggest Loser and runs her own fitness company and 12 week program.  What a fabulous way for us to start our Saturday and you can read more about what we actually did in my post My Workout with Michelle Bridges from Biggest Loser.

An exciting opportunity

I’m excited to have been asked to MC and be the Guest Speaker at a High Tea event for Mother’s Day in May.  Co.As.It is an organisation that provides services for people to stay in their homes longer as they age rather than moving to a retirement home.  They also provide social activities to help people stay connected.  I’m looking forward to the day and will be speaking about Positive Aging, Health and Wellness.

Blogging – Farewells and New Challenges

My Over 50 & Thriving Guest Series has been a great hit!  I love having a different guest writer each week writing their thoughts about Thriving Over 50 and it appears you like it too.  I’m hoping to continue the series for the full year, in keeping with my word for 2018 which is THRIVE.  I find that I am learning from these wonderful women and each has such a unique view on how to thrive in life.

A to Z Challenge 2018Call me crazy but with coaxing from Leanne at Cresting the Hill and Jennifer from Tracking Down the Family,  I’ve once again joined the AtoZ Blogging Challenge which starts in April.  This means writing 26 posts from A to Z based on a theme.  Here is my theme reveal but no prizes for guessing what it is!  I do hope you will subscribe to receive my posts as they publish if you aren’t already a subscriber.

Unfortunately, with new challenges and opportunities it is time for me to say farewell to hosting the Over the Moon  and Blogger’s Pit Stop Link Parties.  I have been with OTM for 3 years and about 1 year with BPS.  I will continue to co-host the Midlife Share the Love Party and the monthly Blogging Grandmothers Link Party.

I need to listen to my head rather than my heart and remember I can’t do it all – even if I wanted to.  Sometimes we need to put ourselves and our needs first to keep healthy and happy.

Well, that is really my news for the month. I am so grateful for the life that I have and to be surrounded by loving family and friends, including those in the blogging world.

How has your March been?  Why not join the conversation and share what you have been up to?

Thank you for the kind mention. Love this coffee chat post. My SaD sentences kind of run all over the place as far as theme and subject. This way you can arrange things on a theme.

We have both missed having our hubs at home. I have been eating much better and exercising so hopefully, when PC gets back, we can continue.

Love your MIL’s painting. What a lovely color palette. She did a fabulous job. Thank you for sharing her art with us.

Hi Leslie, I just find atm that I don’t have time to document every day so thought a monthly round up would at least mean I could share my significant events during the month. Yes, I really got stuck into health and exercise while Mike was away so I need to keep this up now he is home. MIL has discovered a new talent at almost 92 so there is hope for me yet!

    Sue,

Great catch up over coffee…well, I’m not actually having coffee but maybe later I will. Here’s to the A2Z event kicking off this weekend. Have a good day and I’ll see ya around the cyber block! 😉

Same to ya, Sue! I subscribed to your newsletter and won’t miss a post notification. Happy Easter to you!

  • Reply Donna March 30, 2018 at 10:54

Thank you for the great catch-up, Sue. What have we got ourselves into with the ‘A to Z’ Challenge?! See you there!!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 30, 2018 at 12:10

We will be fine Donna – it is fun although I’m scratching my head about X and a couple of others at the moment! xx

      • Reply Donna March 30, 2018 at 14:17

Two possible options include: “Taking an X-Ray of your thriving strategies.”
Or “Heading to xc (or xci….) and beyond”!
        🙂

Sounds similar to autumn in Perth Sue, with temps still hovering around and over 30, but cooler evenings and mornings which is lovely. Probably my favourite time of year.
I really love your mother-in-law’s painting, not least because pears are one of my favourite still-life subjects. I’d frame it too!!
Wow, you put me to shame on the exercise front though. Once a week Pilates and the odd walk is about it for me at the moment, but with the cooler weather I’m hoping to do more. I’m inspired by your post!!
All the best for your MC/guest speaker gig, hope it goes well!

Hi Sue! Lovely to meet you and thanks for stopping by to comment. I’m so happy you were inspired by my post and yes I did have a great March. I have a blogging friend who lives just out of Perth and would love to get over to that side of Australia one day. I hope you will visit again and I would love you to join our weekly link up Midlife Share the Love Party. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more details. x

You certainly had a very busy and full month! Thanks so much for the shout-out at the beginning – and for the AtoZ one – altho’ you might be so exhausted at the end of April you’ll wish we never coaxed you into it! I love that we know so many other bloggers who’ve signed up for it – it’s going to be fun.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 31, 2018 at 14:56

Thanks for the idea! Yes it is going to be fun reading what everyone has written for AtoZ. I’m actually looking forward to it now although I way behind in my writing. xx

  • Reply Pat March 31, 2018 at 02:49

I’m loving the month update over coffee that you and Leanne do! Might be a steal and apply… it’s a great look into what “retirement life is like” as well. Many folks entering retirement worry about “what will I do”… these monthly posts say, you can do whatever you want!

As for me, March was a quick trip to Florida; we have a cottage there and it had been a year since we visited! It was great to catch up with friends there, go to yoga on the beach (best place to do yoga!), and just chill a bit (no pun intended) in the cooler than normal temps. I felt very much like it was a cocooning session, so came back to Ohio energized. End of March became a whirl of activity!

I’m enjoying the blog-link-up at MLSTL. Thanks for including me! I’m a bit worried about April though – with all my friends doing the A to Z challenge…. how am I going to keep up with reading all the (I’m sure) great posts!?!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 31, 2018 at 14:54

Oh Pat, you should start a monthly coffee catch up. Actually, I was going to make it a link up with Leanne but we don’t really have time. I belong to another linkup Sentence A Day. I used to write a sentence for each day of the month about what I was doing but again time just gets away from me. If you are interested you could join that and link up a monthly wrap up. I discussed this with Lesley who organises it and she is happy for us to link a summary. I have a link at the bottom of my post but it won’t be open until 5th April. Let me know if you want more details. It is great having you join us at #MLSTL and yes April will be a busy month. Your March sounds like it was lovely and relaxing for you. Write that post! xx

I enjoyed our coffee catch up and chat Sue, one day we’ll meet up in real life for a cuppa!
Your month sounds very busy and I’m glad you realise you have to let something go. You’ve been a great co-host at Over the Moon and BPS, thanks for all your hard work and for introducing me to these linkups. I love the weekly midlife linkup and always enjoy the posts there. Enjoy April and your A-Z blogging challenge. I’ll be reading ?❤️

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 31, 2018 at 14:50

Yes I would love to catch up one day Debbie and enjoy a good chat in person. I feel like a load has been lifted and so pleased I’ve listened to my head for a change rather than trying to keep everyone happy. Hope you enjoy my A to Z contributions. Have a great weekend xx

  • Reply Victoria March 31, 2018 at 22:53

What a busy time you are having. There is nothing like special time with the grandkids. We do have to remember there is only so much time in a day and we can’t do it all even if we might want to. Congratulations on the speaking engagement.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 1, 2018 at 12:48

Oh I love my time with Ethan, Victoria and can’t wait to meet my newest grandbaby in June. I’m pretty excited about the speaking engagement so I can spread the message that we should have an Ageless Attitude to life. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by x

  • Reply Kathleen - Bloggers Lifestyle April 3, 2018 at 15:44

Thanks, that was a great cup of coffee (I love my coffee). I am very impressed with your MIL for starting a new hobby, if I get to her age I hope I am still trying new things. You will be awesome at your speaking engagemnet, how good is that to be invited!!

We will feature this post to help inspire some more bloggers.

And PS- we are both going to Japan in October it appears! We’re traveling with Gate 1’s Discovery Tour. What are the chances??? ?

We are actually cruising around Japan but almost booked Gate 1’s Discovery Tour wouldn’t that have been amazing, we could have met IRL.
