Reflections on 2017

Well another year is coming to a close and I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who have supported me and my blog, Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond.

I will be coming up to three years of blogging and at times have felt, (like most bloggers) is it worth it?  However, the beautiful and encouraging comments I receive and the connections I make through blogging does make my life richer.

So at this time of year I’d like to reflect on my 2017 which for me was a wonderful year.

Reflections on a Fabulous Year 2017

Each year, I select a word that I want my life to centre around.  In 2016 it was Balance and in 2017 it was Simplify.  In January, I decided that life was just getting too complicated and I wasn’t enjoying my retirement.  I was filling up my days just to fill time and blogging and social media was taking over my life.

I concentrated on getting back to the simple life and found that my life was still full – BUT – with meaningful things to enrich my life.

Minding my darling grandson, Ethan each Wednesday was a highlight of each week where I just stopped and enjoyed the time with him.  It is amazing how children live in the moment and I learned so much from him this year.

2017  was the year I celebrated my 60th birthday starting with a party organised by my darling husband and daughter.  This was such a lovely afternoon spent with family and friends.

Celebrating being fit & fabulous at 60

My celebrations continued with a trip to Spain and Italy.  A dream both Mike and I have had for over 20 years was to visit Spain and finally we did.

Malaga on the Costa del Sol where we visited the Picasso Museum

I started volunteering at my MILs aged care home and enriched my life even more.  Spending time with the elderly taught me that life is there to be lived and you are never too old to enjoy your life.  Giving of your time is such a rewarding experience.

My MIL helping to decorate at her aged care home

I also found great joy in participating in the #itsinthebag campaign through Share the Dignity.  Putting together a bag full of toiletries and goodies for women in crisis.

LOOKING FORWARD TO 2018 at Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond

2018 is shaping up to be another exciting year and now that I have found BALANCE and SIMPLIFIED my life I’m ready to THRIVE!

‘THRIVE ‘ will be my word for 2018 and I am excited to share that each week on the blog I will be having a guest author to write about their thoughts on ‘Over 50 & Thriving’.  This is such a fabulous time of life and I’m looking forward to sharing these wonderful women and their perspectives with you in the ‘Over 50 & Thriving’ SeriesI would love you to subscribe so you don’t miss a post – just click here.

Will you select a Word for the Year?  Why not THRIVE with me and share our journey?

I will also be starting a new Midlife Lifestyle Link Up each Wednesday with my friend from Leanne at Cresting the Hill.  This will be a small link up exclusively for Midlife bloggers who write about similar things to Leanne and I.  More to come on that in the New Year.  However, if you aren’t sure what a link party is, or why you don’t have to be a blogger to read them, then read my post that I recently wrote for Shirley at Write to Inspire – Link Parties and Why they are Good for Bloggers & Readers.

Sue Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond

I have loved each blog that I have written for you this year and hope that you have enjoyed reading them.  My goal is always to encourage and inspire YOU – beautiful women Over 50 who want to be fit, fabulous, healthier and happier.

So as I close for the year, I want to wish each and every one of you as readers and blogging friends a joyous Festive Season and enjoy this magical time to create memories with family and friends.

I will be taking a break and will return on 7th January. I’m looking forward to another fabulous year with you all.  My last post will be this coming Thursday 21st December, where I’m sharing my Summer Bucket List with you.

Until next time…..

Let’s Keep Sizzling in 2018!

Your post is great and all the best to Thrive next year. I’ve only been blogging a short while and when I read posts like yours I feel encouraged to just ‘carry on’. Will love to join your new link party when it’s up and running.

I’ve just done a post ‘ My Year in Pictures 2017’. Only after perusing my photos did I realize how blessed I was to have enjoyed such an interesting and adventurous year. If you have time, please visit, I would love to hear from you.

Such a great year Sue and I love the ‘simplify’ theme. I read something interesting the other day – which talked about minimalism being as much about our minds and lives as it is about ‘stuff’ and I think that’s exactly your point.

I particularly enjoyed your travel and though I now have my own to look forward to next year, was very envious at the time! #teamlovinlife

What a beautiful post Sue to end up the year. I have enjoyed connecting with you this year and reading your inspiring posts. I think my word for next year will be “gratitude” as I feel like I have a blessed life and would like to become more grateful and appreciative of my wonderful life. I look forward to meeting up with you again in 2018. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. #TeamLovinLife

  • Reply Denyse December 21, 2017 at 15:42

Congratulations on a great year. Thank you for inviting me to be part of it too via guest blogging. Interesting announcement from you and Leanne. I may be up for adding another post every so often particularly focussing on mid life…or at least towards the END of mid life if you know what I mean.
I have Life This Week prompts up for the first 10 weeks and there will be a Photo one each 5 weeks! I look forward to seeing more of everyone’s snaps then.
Of course I will continue my Tuesdays blog for I Blog on Tuesdays (and then link up with Leanne as well) but like I said, I definitely think there will be some occasions where another linky like you are proposing will be good for me too.
I look forward to reading more. Thanks for your kindness and care about me this year. Sure was NOT a year I expected!! Warm wishes to you and yours for Christmas! The 2nd week on my link up in 2018 is ‘your word or intention for 2018 and this post would fit that bill if you wanted to share it again! Denyse xx

    • Reply Sue Loncaric December 23, 2017 at 09:34

Hi Denyse it has been a wonderful year for me and I know your year has certainly not been easy. I’ve loved linking up with you and will be there in the New Year. I’ve already checked out your prompts! Have a very Merry Christmas and a healthier and happier New Year, my friend xx

Thank you so much for your kind words on this post. You have had a great year and insight into yourself has helped you find what else fulfils you. Good on you! I hope to do some posts additionally each week to link up on Wednesdays with you and Leanne. I shall look out for when it starts. Thank you for linking up for #lifethisweek 1/52 and next week’s optional prompt is Word or Intention for 2018.

What a great year you’ve had Sue!! I’ve loved all your posts and the connections I’ve made with you and others in similar situations. It’s a great time of life and I know I’m blessed to be doing what I’m doing.

At the end of 2016 I wrote a post in response to a photo challenge with the theme of new horizons and looking back I’m so fortunate to be where I am now, I’m in such a good place now. I didn’t think I’d had a word for the year but I I did!! This coming year I’m thinking of a new word, inspired by you. ❤️

Hi, Sue. I found this post thru the Blogging Grandma linkup, but I’ve been here before reading some of your posts. I love the idea of a “word” for the year – I’ve read several blogs that are using this idea… So, I’ve decided to join in! My word for 2018 is “Confidence”. Here’s to reaching deep and facing the world, my work, my challenges with confidence! Thanks for the encouraging post. Happy New Year!

Hello Kimberly! How lovely of you to visit and I’m so glad you found my website. Confidence is a great word as sometimes when we reach midlife and beyond our confidence can take a hit. I’m sure you will succeed and glad you felt encouraged to select a word. Happy New Year! x
