Take control of your life quote

‘I am so busy’, ‘sorry, too busy’, ‘I never have time for myself’, ‘I feel guilty I don’t have enough time to spend with the children or grandchildren’

Can you relate to any of these statements?  I know I can and you know what?  We only have ourselves to blame.  Instead of taking control of our life we are letting life take control of us.

It’s time to take back control of your life

We all have the same amount of time each day, each week, each year.  So how come some people always seem to be able to fit everything in and others are chasing their tails and feeling like the mouse on the wheel, running like crazy?

My word for 2017 is ‘Simplify’ and that encompasses all areas of our life.  We can make our lives simpler and more enjoyable if we just take back control.

Know when to say YES and when to say NO

THIS IS NOT EASY!  I’ve written about Ways to get back on track when life gets in the way  and that includes realising that we can’t do everything, and we can’t be everything to everyone.  Superwoman doesn’t exist!

Ask for help

Don’t be too proud or hesitant to ask for help.  You will find that family and friends are only too willing to help out.  Sometimes we don’t offer to help others because we don’t want them to feel inadequate.  However, asking for help DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE INADEQUATE it means you are VALUING YOURSELF AND YOUR TIME.

Prioritise

It is so important to prioritise our time and VERY IMPORTANT to also prioritise time for ourselves.  Schedule in some time for you so you can nurture and be kind to you.  You will function better and be more productive if you give yourself some down time just for you to do what you enjoy.  Do it for YOU but also for your FAMILY.

Enjoy the little things

Make time each day to enjoy the little things.  Many little things can add up to a lot of ‘feel good’ moments.  Dr James Rouse advises to GO SLOW – “see the blessings much more readily under the influence of slow”

Commit

We never really achieve anything without commitment.  You need to commit to making positive changes in your life and taking back control.

Introduce Healthy Habits

Creating healthy habits for our mind, body and spirit helps us to cope with the stresses of life.  Daily exercise, such as a brisk walk, taking time to give thanks and reflect, making healthier food choices, all add up to a much healthier and happier YOU!

    I love how simple these suggestions are Sue. The last thing we all need is to be overwhelmed with a list of huge things we should be achieving in our lives. Taking time to just be in the moment and to work out what is important to us and focusing on those things are what successful living is all about isn’t it?

    These are all good suggestions Sue. Being overwhelmed is what I felt with all those blog post emails coming in…so many I couldn’t read them all. Yes, I already told you about it but I’m using Bloglovin’ and I think I’m going to like it 🙂 Seems like the more advanced we get in this life with technology the less time we have to do everything. I think about my grandparents and great-grandparents and wonder what they would think about our lives today.

      Oh Clearissa I know where you are coming from and I hope your mother is okay. We have finally found an aged care facility for my 90 year old Mother-in-law.     My word is BALANCE. Stress and overwhelm are an indication that the various aspects of our life is out of balance. Financial balance ( get rid of debt) and work-life balance ( for the workaholics) are at the top of the list.

    Funnily enough I don’t have a problem with commitment.
    My problem is combining the whole “commit” thing with the “learn when to say yes and learn when to say no” thing. Because once I say “yes” I commit to the end even when it’s clearly not in my own best interests.

    Busy is a pet peeve of mine. I don’t want to be busy!! I’m sure bore my colleagues when we chat about the weekend and I say I’ve got nothing planned but oh well 🙂

    It really clicked with me how much I hated ‘busy’ when I had a conversation with someone a year or so about not needing a GPS because it’s more fun to get lost. They said they didn’t have time to get lost and I reaslied that pretty much, the only thing I need to be on time for are things like medical appointments! I don’t have masses of obligations, even work I don’t have strictly set hours (though habitually I do tend to work the same hours) so if I am 15 or 30mins earlier or later one day it makes no difference to anything.

    You are right, we all have 24 hours and we can control how busy we are. Learning not to be a man pleaser goes a long way to helping. Often that is easier said than done.
