Taking stock and checking off my Spring Bucket List

November 20, 2017
taking stock

Can you believe it is almost December????  I suppose it didn’t help that I was swanning around Spain and Italy with my darling husband for the whole of October so I feel like I’ve missed a month.  I had a fabulous time though and hope to share some of my adventures with you over the coming months.

I was prompted to take a look at how my year has been progressing because this week at Denyse Whelan Blogs the prompt is ‘Taking Stock’. It is also time to check on my Spring Bucket List where I’m linking up with Leslie from Once Upon A Time – Happily Ever After.

Looking back at my 2017 reminds me it has been such a wonderful year for me with the two highlights being the celebration of my 60th birthday and a wonderful overseas holiday with my darling.

Celebrating being fit & fabulous at 60

Taking stock

My word for the year was ‘Simplify’ and I wanted to take a step back and really analyse what was important in my life.  I think this will always be a work in progress but I did manage to put some practices in place to make life fun again and also reduce stress and anxiety.

Now to check on my Spring Bucket List to see what I can tick off and what I didn’t quite manage to get around to.

Health & Wellness

  • Continue my bi-weekly runs with my Saturday Sisters. The running event season is over but we still love our catch ups twice a week not only to keep our running fitness but because of our wonderful friendship. – TICK
  • Revise my workout program – I would like to introduce yoga twice weekly and one or two PT strength sessions per week – HALF A TICK – I have to admit I didn’t do any exercise except walking on our trip.
  • Try some smoothie recipes – NO TICK

Travel

  • Enjoy our holiday to Europe visiting Portugal, Spain & Italy plus a Mediterranean Cruise – TICK, TICK, TICK!

  • Experience different foods from different cultures – I tried Paella, Sangria and of course delicious Gelato

  • Escape to our apartment at the Coast at least fortnightly – not quite a TICK but we will be visiting much more over Summer.

Self Awareness

Both of these are Work in Progress but that is fine I’ll just keep them on the list until I actually do them.

Revamp my wardrobe

Spring is a good time to declutter the wardrobe and actually see what I do have, what I need and what I probably need to get rid of.

NO TICK HERE but I did get some advice from three of my favourite bloggers with their Fashion Tips for the Festive Season – be sure to click through and read their tips.

Start preparing for Christmas

Having a blended family means that we don’t all get together on Christmas day.  So we have our full family Christmas a week before.  My husband and I love preparing for the day and filling Santa Sacks with goodies for the grandchildren.

Happy to say we are on track for our family celebrations on 17th December.

So that was my year of 2017 and my Spring Bucket List Update.

How has your year progressed?  Have you achieved what you wanted?  Remember you can always adjust your list – life can get in the way.

I think you can tick off “have a fabulous time in 2017!” And that is quite the glass of sangria!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 20, 2017 at 09:15

Thanks Michele I have been so fortunate this year. It certainly has been wonderful for me. Yes the sangria – I nearly fell off my seat when they served it to me but of course I couldn’t let the team down and had to drink it, didn’t I? LOL:)

I love your Spring Bucket List, Sue. What I LOVE MOST OF ALL is your brilliant modeling that it is okay to dream big, tick off some items, half tick others and save others for next time.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 20, 2017 at 09:16

Thank you Donna for always making me feel special and you have given me a lovely start to my week. Have a beautiful day and thank you for your ongoing support. xx

What a great balance you have! I love the mix of self-awareness and growth mixed with commitments to your health and fitness along with relaxation and fun.

Thanks Deb, I’ve tried to get some Balance in my life. That was my word last year but I just couldn’t quite get there. This year has been so much better and I’m very grateful for all that I have. Have a fabulous week and thanks for stopping by to comment. xx

Wow! That glass of sangria was massive!

Having a bucket list documented is so helpful in keeping me accountable to achieving the things on my list. I’ve probably completed 3/4 of my list for this year with some items being altered slightly as my plans and wants changed along the way.

Hi Ingrid, I was glad I had been doing weight training so I could lift that glass of sangria!!! I like having a bucket list. It can change if need be but it also reminds me of what I want to achieve. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by xx

I’ve enjoyed following your holidays on instagram. You’re doing so well with your bucket list too.

Thanks Jo. It was a wonderful experience and my year certainly has been a year to remember. Have a fabulous day and looking forward to meeting you at the Xmas lunch. x

Seem’s like your universe is very well balanced Sue. I’ve been doing yoga for a while now and love it, it’s exercise for both the body & the mind.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 21, 2017 at 10:00

Hi Jenni, yes I certainly can’t complain. My word for 2016 was Balance, this year it was Simplify and now in 2018 I’m ready to Thrive. Thanks for stopping by to comment – Namaste xx

You’ve had a great year Sue – your trip looked wonderful and your family did an amazing job for your 60th – what are you going to do in 2018 to top that lot?! I’m still trying to come up with my word for next year – it’s proving to be a tough one this time.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 21, 2017 at 09:59

It has been wonderful Leanne I’m so lucky! My word for 2018 will be Thrive and I’m hoping to have you as one of my guest writers talking about it. xx

Oh my gosh . . . I recognize those Gate 1 Travel lanyards! We’ve done six trips with them over the years, consistently finding them to be tops with regard to value. And we did their Portugal and Spain tour (plus day trips to Gibraltar and Morocco) in October of 2016. How fun!

Do you recall your tour leaders? We had Rui (spelling?) in Portugal and Jose in Spain. Top marks to both, though Rui was cute as a bug, while Jose was more serious.

I really miss the daily sangrias, so particularly love the photo of you sipping one!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 21, 2017 at 11:24

Hi Tamara! Yes it was the first tour we had done with Gate 1 Travel as they have only recently opened in Australia. We had a great time. Our tour guide in Spain was Elio and he was great! Those sangrias were delicious weren’t they! We didn’t have Morocco on offer in this tour but would love to go there. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day. xx

You have been busy, I was just commenting to Denyse Whelan that perhaps I should take stock as hopefully that will remind me of some things I have achieved and forgotten about (or perhaps some things I have just forgotten about) 😉

  • Reply Natalie November 21, 2017 at 21:51

Your 2017 looks wonderful, Sue! Loved to see you had three ticks for travel 🙂 Have a lovely spring where you are.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 23, 2017 at 17:29

I have been very lucky and grateful for such a wonderful year Natalie! More travel for next year is definitely on the list 🙂

  • Reply Christie Hawkes November 21, 2017 at 23:17

Sue, it sounds like you’re having a lovely spring, even if everything on the listed isn’t ticked off yet. The trip to Spain, Portugal, and Italy alone is enough to call it a success in my book. That sangria looks lovely. Of course, you still have one more month, so you’ll know doubt tick a few more items. Good luck to you and enjoy!

  • Reply Jamie November 21, 2017 at 23:32

Oh, but all those travel pictures are amazing!! That’s an entire bucket list in itself!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 23, 2017 at 17:30

Yes we had a fabulous time Jamie and watch this space for more about our travels. 🙂

  • Reply Leslie Clingan November 22, 2017 at 01:35

Genius how you combined the bucket list post with Denyse’s writing prompt. I had the ‘taking stock’ prompt on my agenda. Would still like to write on it later this week.

Seems to me that you have ticked the most important things off your bucket list. And we have another month of this season left to tie things up. I always get tripped up when I read about your SPRING bucket list when I am writing about my fall bucket list. Not sure I will ever get it straight in my head.

Yay for finding a way to celebrate the upcoming holidays with your blended family. It is so hard but love makes it so worthwhile.
    XO

Pretty clever aren’t I LOL:) I’m pretty happy with my Spring Bucket list and the year in general – I couldn’t really ask for more! Happy thanksgiving!

I loved that! I so miss filling the “santa sacks’ that were from us the the grandkids. When I first became a grandma 21 years ago 23 Dec..I knew I would want to have the fun of Christmas once I became Grandma so I got a friend to make me 4 Christmas themed drawstring bag with different colours in the closing string. As each subsequent grandchild came along…I would add a nametag. That went well until MORE came along. So, what to do? I put it to the grandkids who were older than 10 that Grandma would now put their pressies in a Christmas paper type bag. No worries. Then….as we got to 8 in total…we had a rethink…the littlest got the bag with fewer toys..a book & something to wear and some $ towards something they needs. And now…sadly, because we have moved and do not see them, the bags are packed away and each grandchild gets $50 deposited into their account.,…because we are practical grandparents too. Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek 45/52. Next week’s prompt: Best Birthday Ever.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 23, 2017 at 17:32

Yes our eldest is 10 now and our youngest is 3.5 so we need to make sure that we don’t forget the little ones just because the others are getting older. We put some money in a bank account we set up for each of them when they were born. We deposit monthly plus extra for birthday and Christmas but I still like to have the Santa Sacks as I love seeing their faces opening them. x

Well it sounds like a pretty successful 2017 to-date and I love your travel pics. You can add smoothie recipes to next year’s bucket list and in the meantime look forward to your early Christmas which should be exciting 🙂

That is a big glass of SANGRIA!!!! Give yourself 3 ticks for that! 🙂

I’m about to revise my workout program. Want to add more yoga and walking when the weather is nice.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric November 28, 2017 at 08:20

Yes that Sangria was hard going but someone had to do it LOL:) Walking and yoga sound like a perfect combo Cathy. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day x
