Do you like to travel alone? I’m sure that most of us might find that idea a little over whelming, or perhaps scary, however this post may change your attitude to travelling solo.
Through blogging I have met some wonderful women of midlife who are embracing this wonderful phase of life and taking all opportunities.
I would love to introduce you to Annette who lives in Copenhagen. Each year, Annette visits London for a week on her own for self-discovery and self-awareness. I loved reading her post and also her tips for travelling alone.
Hello all adventurous women – I am Annette – Danish jewelry designer and blogger and I have found a great opportunity to explore myself and the world. To travel alone.
Do you want to try something new ?. Many women throughout time have travelled alone, so it is not a new phenomenon. I love to travel alone. It is an experience all women should try . It gives a great sense of freedom. And it is good to try something new and get out of our comfort zone.
How it started !
When I was 25 years I got a scholarship to Florence and took off alone without knowing anyone. I found an apartment and a lot of nice people and made a life there for nearly 2 years . Wonderful years that still has an impact on me emotionally
So I’ve always had it in me. 25 years later I got the idea. When my husband goes fishing once a year, I go to London to be on jewelery courses , get inspiration for new jewelry , look at art and enjoy life.
LONDON and ann wei design
I simply love London. If Italy is my heart country, then London is the creative and life -loving part of me. London is life, bohemian neighborhoods , ancient history, fascinating museums , lots of art , vivid people , lovely coffee shops and restaurants.
In London there are so many courses for designers like me.
I started to travel alone 7 years ago and the first years it was only for 3 days. The first day was strange. It was the feeling of ” aloneness ” that was unfamiliar . But as I have always loved London, I made a small plan of what to do and it turned out to be a nice beginning.
The following year I went with my arms up when I arrived and this year,7 years later, I went for a week.
How do you prepare to travel alone ?
- First of all you have to have the desire. And then the right attitude.
- Start with being away one day – a trip into the blue or a few days outside your home
- Think of a place where you can do something that fills you up. Maybe for you it is to be in peace and quiet to write , think and go for walks or you need to wander and test your physical limits .
- Is it the serenity , the feeling of freedom or excitement you are looking for?
- Choose a place where you feel excited! I would recommend that you have a small program , so you have a purpose for the trip .
- Have the opportunity to contact someone at home
What do women gain from travel alone ?
FREEDOM – an overwhelming sense of absolute freedom .
SELF – DISCOVERY – how it is to be alone and feel yourself.
BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE
MEET NEW PEOPLE
There have always been women who have travelled alone. Grandma Gatewood she was the first woman who went through the Appalacchian mountains in the United States at the age of 67 years.
