A little while ago I wrote an article on Self Doubt and how it can stop you from achieving what you want in life.
So often, we rely on others for advice or to make decisions for us because we don’t have enough confidence in ourselves. We fear that we might make the wrong decision and yet we all have an inner voice or ‘gut feel’ as it is commonly known.
I have suffered from a lack of confidence, however with experience and maturity I have learned ways to overcome this and trust in my own abilities. My post on How Running A Marathon Taught Me Anything Is Possible tells my story of how I went from not being able to run at all to running a full marathon. I overcame my self doubt and trusted myself and in this case my mental strength to achieve my goal.
Here are some ideas you can try to learn to trust yourself and become the confident, wonderful person that you are.
1. Let Go of Fear
Easy! Well no, not actually, however you do need to learn to overcome your fear of failure in particular. Look in the mirror and say I CAN DO THIS! It won’t be easy but if you say it often enough you will start to believe it. Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and see how your inner strength develops.
2. Listen to Your Inner Voice
Our Intuition is a strong sense but one that we don’t always tap into. Sometimes we don’t recognise it as we let fear take over. Intuition is a feeling that you get almost immediately. I’m not saying to be impulsive, but listen to your voice and trust your ‘gut instinct’. You can feel if it is right or uncomfortable.
3. Be Confident in Your Opinion
Sure ask advice of others, however as the quote says ‘Another’s mind isn’t walking your journey’. It really is up to you so trust yourself. We all make mistakes or bad decisions in life, but through these experiences we learn and grow and become more aware. Realise that you CAN make a decision. It is better to make a decision, right or wrong, than not making a decision and never knowing.
4. Take Responsibility for Your Life
Acknowledge that you are responsible for yourself and your life, even if you are in a relationship. At the end of the day we have to accept this responsibility. It is amazing how empowering this is once you take control.
SO TRUST IN YOURSELF AND FLY!!
