My Virtual Coffee Catch Up for May
May has come to an end so let’s have a coffee (or tea) catchup and I can share what has been happening in my world during the month. I would love you to share what you have been up to in the comments section below and keep the conversation going.
Last year I was linking up to a Sentence A Day with Leslie from Once Upon A Time, Happily Ever After. However, this year has been so busy I’ve found it easier just to give a monthly review of what I’ve been up to. My friend, Leanne from Cresting the Hill introduced me to a virtual coffee catch up and it is a great way to share what has been happening.
Autumn has finally arrived!
The days are just gorgeous in Brisbane during Autumn and Winter. The skies are clear and piercing blue and the sun shines so that only the mornings and evenings are crisp and cool.
The big celebration for May was celebrating my darling husband, Mike’s 70th birthday. He didn’t want a fuss or to be the centre of attention, unlike me LOL:), so we had a series of smaller celebrations with family and friends spread over the weekend. I can’t take the credit for this cake which was made by his daughter, Nikki and our grandchildren, Lexie and Harry.
Stepping out of my Comfort Zone
Public Speaking, taking the Mindful in May Challenge and committing to a 34km Run in July were all ways I stepped out of my comfort zone. You can read all about this in my post Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone in May.
We are preparing to welcome a new baby to the family and I’m so excited. My daughter, Rachel is now on maternity leave awaiting the arrival of a new baby brother or sister for Ethan (it is a surprise), so I took her off for some pampering and we had a Manicure/Pedicure treat.
Also spent a lovely day when she visited with Ethan and Wallis the Pooch.
UPDATE: We now have welcomed our new grandson, Elliot Alexander and baby brother to Ethan. Exciting times!
Mother’s Day meant a visit to my MIL to spoil her with some gifts and a visit.
As regular readers will know, I volunteer at outings and events at Marycrest, my MIL’s aged care home. Two events in May was the Mothers in Africa Event, which raised funds for Mothers in Uganda. This was so much fun setting up for the event and the ladies all helping to prepare the food.
We took another City Cat Ride along the Brisbane River and had Lunch. It was a gorgeous Autumn Day and everyone had a great time.
Health and Wellness
Mindful in May – I took the challenge and survived but only just. It was information overload and by the end I was a little over it. Obviously, my mind was not in the right place and I tried to do it all instead of just perhaps doing the daily guided meditations. Lesson learned: My best is enough on any given day.
In training – I am now in training for 34km Bloody Long Walk which my Saturday Sisters and I are hoping to run. We have extended our Saturday run to 18kms by end of May and included two runs during the week.
Mother’s Day run
Once again, I participated in the Annual Mother’s Day Classic 8km Run to honour and remember my Mum who lost her battle with breast cancer 32 years ago. It was such a fun day and I would love you to check out my post Mother’s Day Classic 2018 in Pictures
During May I was fortunate to be asked to be write a Guest post for Dee from Grammy’s Grid and Karen from Profound Journey. Both were answering questions and it was fun to dig deeper and become more self-aware as I wrote my answers. You can read my guest post at Grammy’s Grid HERE and my guest post at Profound Journey HERE. I loved Karen’s title of ‘Sizzling Sue Shares What Inspires Her’
Blogging isn’t always fun! I experienced frustration because my comments and replies weren’t working properly and also getting my head around the new EU Data Protection Regulation Guidelines.
After the April Blogging AtoZ Challenge I am trying to get into the new groove of posting 3 times per week. I’ve also started includind a Coffee Catch Video in my weekly newsletter which I also post to YouTube. It is all about trying new things!
A VERY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT
I was thrilled to learn that Annual Bloggers Bash Awards results were confirmed and Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond was Runner Up (3rd place) in the Most Informative (Original Content) Blogger Category. My friend Debbie from Deb’s World, another Aussie Blogger, was actually at the event and she messaged me with the good news that both she and I had placed as Runners Up in our respective categories. Go Aussies!!! I couldn’t contain myself so I wrote a blog post to thank everyone for their support and also why I blog. Why I Blog – Exciting News to Share and a Huge Thank you!
How has your May been? Why not join the conversation and share what you have been up to?
